Throgs Neck Interim Construction

GeoDesign successfully completed in-situ characterization of soils, support of excavation design, instrumentation monitoring, and Special Inspection services in preparation for the reconstruction and improvements to the Throgs Neck Pumping Station (NYCDEP Contract PS-236) in the Borough of the Bronx, New York.

The project required the in-situ characterization of urban fill and delineation of contaminated soils.  Completion of the Field Sampling Plan (FSP) and Field Sampling Summary Report (FSSP) were also environmental components of the project.  We completed condition assessments of nearby structures and performed vibration monitoring during construction of the project.  Preparation of a vibration monitoring plan was required prior to construction.  During construction, we monitored the ambient and construction induced vibrations and provided recommendations to adjust construction methods as necessary.  GeoDesign provided Special Inspection monitoring during construction of a 75 foot secant pile support of excavation and prepared Technical Reports for the NYCDOB.

GeoDesign also provided design calculations and working drawings for four levels of internal bracing for the secant pile wall to a depth of 46 feet for installation of an interim wet well.  We will also provide design of an internally braced sheetpile support of excavation to a depth of up to 43 feet for demolition of existing components, replacement of a force main header, and installation of manholes.
